Skin Rashes – Tips for Relief & When to Visit the Doctors

Reasons for Having Rashes on Your Skin

When you have a rash on your skin, you can feel miserable with itchiness, oozing blisters or swollen skin tissues. You can also develop a fever from a rash because it is caused by an illness. Depending on where the rash is on your body, you can feel embarrassed because it is difficult to hide the red spots or the flaky skin tissue. Here are some of the causes of skin rashes:

• Exposure to poison ivy or poison oak
• Contagious illnesses, including measles or chickenpox
• Allergic reactions to laundry detergents, air pollution or bath soaps
• Bites from insects, such as fleas or bedbugs
• Reactions to foods, including nuts or shellfish
• Metal allergies from jewelry that contains nickel
• Autoimmune disorders, including lupus
• Fungal infections

Today, you can often find a photograph of a particular type of rash to determine what is causing the condition.

What to Do at Home for a Rash

When you have a rash, your skin may feel hot or itchy, but you can often overcome the problem on your own with self-treatment. If you suspect that the rash is caused by exposure to an allergen that touched your skin, then washing your skin thoroughly can often help you to overcome the condition quickly. When you have sensitive skin, you should choose skincare products that are formulated without chemicals that can cause an allergic reaction. If you notice a rash around your neck or on your earlobes, then it can indicate that you are allergic to certain types of metal. Nickel is the most common type of metal in jewelry that will cause an allergic reaction, but it is possible to have allergies to other metals. When you have a metal allergy, you can choose jewelry that is made from plastic and other materials.

Avoiding Complications from a Rash

While walking outside, you should understand how to recognize poison oak or ivy to avoid touching the plants so that you won’t develop an itchy and oozing rash. If you have other symptoms with a rash, including fever or nausea, then you could have a contagious illness, such as measles. When you had chickenpox as a child, you can develop shingles later that causes a strange rash on one side of your body. This is a painful rash that can lead to nerve damage that lasts a lifetime, so this is a condition that requires professional treatment right away.

Fast Professional Treatment for Rashes on the Skin

Urgent care for skin rashes is often the best choice so that you can have an accurate diagnosis of the condition along with beginning the proper treatment. Fungal rashes, such as ringworm require an oral medication to get rid of the fungus along with applications of ointments to treat the rash on the skin. If you have poison ivy or poison oak near your eyes, nose or lips, then you can avoid serious complications by having professional treatment rather than only applying calamine lotion.
